Elkington and Fife LLP welcome applications from candidates with good communication skills including the ability to write clear technical English. Fluency in foreign languages will also be an asset. Any candidate needs to be able to work independently and take responsibility for their work. The ideal candidate will have technical expertise on day one so post-graduate experience or a PhD would be advantageous.
The position will involve an interesting mixture of different types of work. There is likely to be a significant amount of work drafting new patent applications as well as arguing cases in patent offices around the world. Elkington and Fife LLP are committed to training, comprising on the job training, in house seminars and training exercises. All trainees are sent on the Certificate in Intellectual Property course at Queen Mary, University of London.

Vacancy - Pharmaceutical / Chemical Patent Attorney (posted 24 May 2010)
We are now looking to recruit a recently qualified pharmaceutical or chemical patent attorney, or an exceptional finals standard individual, to join one of our two chemical and life sciences teams, based in either our London or our Sevenoaks office.
After an induction period, working closely with a partner, the successful candidate will be expected to handle a range of patent matters, including oppositions, freedom to operate opinions and other contentious matters, with minimal supervision, in addition to day to day drafting and prosecution work.
Our principal aim is to recruit someone who is able and willing to play a decisive role in the development of the practice, including developing new client relationships, as well as nurturing existing ones.
We have a varied workload, including a large amount of opposition and opinion work, as well as drafting and prosecution work for direct clients. Our client base ranges from major international companies to SMEs, start up companies and universities. Technologies that we deal with include pharmaceuticals, biochemistry, therapeutic antibodies, diagnostic tests, polymers, nanotechnology, food science and printing inks. We would welcome applications from candidates able to deal effectively with a selection of these technical fields.

Vacancy – Trade Mark Attorney (posted 16 June 2010)
We are looking to recruit a recently qualified trade mark attorney in our Sevenoaks office to take on some of the heavy work load of our principal trade mark partner and to assist him with his practice. We believe that this position represents an excellent opportunity for the right candidate with good prospects for career development in our firm and to become involved with an expanding practice at the grass roots stage.
