Nickeal is a UK and European Patent Attorney with a broad, cross-disciplinary practice focused on patent drafting, prosecution and freedom-to-operate work across a wide range of technologies.

He studied Natural Sciences at Gonville and Caius College, University of Cambridge, specialising in Materials Science and Physics, alongside Chemistry and Mathematics. This broad scientific and technical background is particularly valuable where an invention sits at the intersection of several disciplines.

Nickeal’s drafting and prosecution practice spans mechanical engineering, sensing and imaging technologies, materials science, medical technology and consumer products. His multidisciplinary approach has enabled him to work effectively with a diverse client base, including the research and innovation departments of multinational companies. He has helped clients protect technically sophisticated and commercially significant inventions by developing patent strategies that are both comprehensive and commercially relevant.

He is experienced in developing and coordinating patent strategies across multiple jurisdictions and has particular expertise in helping clients navigate the requirements and nuances of European patent practice.

Nickeal is also experienced in freedom-to-operate work, including large-scale projects in areas such as medical technology, sensing and renewable energy.

Nickeal joined Elkington + Fife in 2021 and qualified as a UK and European Patent Attorney in 2025.
