Registered designs protect the appearance of a product or of a part of that product and can include the product’s shape, surface decoration or colour/s. Designs are often the best option when patent protection is either not available or unlikely to provide the level of protection you require.

With recent changes in the registered design law in Europe, it is now possible to register a wide range of types of design in both the UK and within the European Union.  Design registration could also be a good way to supplement copyright protection and/or trade mark protection.
